Help! My Mac and cheese lacks...cheesiness! Do y’all have a secret ingredient?

I love making homemade mac and cheese but the cheese flavor never shines through like I want it to. I get a fantastic texture with white American and cheddar but the flavor is off some how. Is there a secret ingredient? Do I just need to amp up the cheddar or mustard? Thoughts please and thank you!
