Hi,
My friend group has been going through a difficult time all around, from family deaths to shitty break ups to unemployment.
They've always helped me when my life was poopy and I really want to bring us together for a good home cooked dinner to thank them and be there for them.
The only definitive side I have picked is Paula Deen's Crockpot Mac n Cheese (or as I call it, coronary disease mac n cheese).
I want to make fried chicken, maybe some green beans and a gumbo and salad or coleslaw.
Can you recommend any recipes within the soul food idea, foods you'd want to eat when you're sad to feel better?

ETA: i was thinking apple dumplings for dessert, but I feel like that doesn't make sense with the theme here so I'd also love some nut free dessert ideas!
