In a heavy saucepan cook 4 peaches and 4 plums, cut into pretty big chunks, with no more than 1/3 cup brown sugar, a couple teaspoons vinegar, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then keep it boiling at medium low heat until the juices create a thick syrup (this takes up to 15 or 20 minutes) Keep this nice and warm. If the fruit lets off a lot of juice, thicken with some kind of starch (corn, rice, flour all work nicely)
Heat oven to 350 F ; when it's hot, put a 2 quart baking dish (I use an 8x8 Pyrex ) into the oven to heat. It needs a only a few minutes. Melt 1 cube butter in the dish (for all the dumbys this is the dish that is in the oven)
Meanwhile, mix 2 teaspoons baking powder, a pinch of salt, 1 cup sugar, and not quite 1 cup flour (imagine 1 cup minus 3 T ) Mix this so it's evenly distributed.
Pour the hot fruit into the buttery pan.
Pour 1 cup of warm milk into the flour/sugar mix and stir till just combined. Pour this in the middle of the fruity/buttery pan. DO NOT STIR
Sprinkle a bit of sugar on top, then put into the oven and bake till the top is golden brown. Around 30 minutes or so
This is great to make a few hours before you want to serve it! It is most supreme when it is lukewarm
Also, you can use any combo of fruit you like. Use a generous 1 pound of whatever the hell you want or have
It would also be good with little bits of marzipan tossed in with the Poured Fruit , Yum Yum Good
