Help on how to cook a multi (9 or 15) bean soup

The reason I say 9 or 15 is because I forgot how many varieties of beans there are in this mixture. I brought it at a smart & final in the bulk section about two months ago and I just wanted to try it so I brought a pound. I've only had like three varieties of beans in my life so I was curious.

I completely forgot I brought it because I stored it somewhere in my kitchen drawers and I found it today again while cleaning stuff out.

Now I am wondering on how to cook this. All I know about cooking beans is from my mom, which she just uses salt an garlic. I know with lentils and garbanzo she lets them soak overnight (she has recipes for these).

So here is my questions: Since this has lentils, do I let it soak? Can I eat it just boiled on its own (with garlic and salt) ? Does the number of types of beans make a difference in cooking time or any other factor?

thank you!

Thai Loaded Fries - what to do for a sauce?

About a year ago I went to a local restaurant that's since closed - they did these amazing streetfood Thai Loaded Fries, which were drizzled in a mildly spicy Thai sauce and garnished with sliced Red Chilli and Coriander.

I don't even know where to begin on recreating a sauce like that. All I can tell you is that it was orange in colour and I'm just looking for suggestions on where to begin.

Recipe for alcoholic drink called “Sweet Leaf” ?

I apologize if this is not the best subreddit for this, but the alcohol subreddit didn’t help. My girlfriend just turned 21 and we went to a bar to celebrate. We asked for a drink that didn’t taste like alcohol as she never liked the taste, and they brought her a drink called a “Sweet Leaf” (we think that’s what she said anyway). She really liked it so I tried to find a recipe online so we could make it at home, but I couldn’t find one. The waitress said it had coconut rum and pineapple rum in it, but that’s all I could remember. Does anyone have a recipe?

id like some recommendations on some other less-popular, more unique fruits that would mix well with the ambrosia.

(just looking for fruit, i have everything else like greek yogurt etc)

so far i have,

green grapes

black grapes (should i get red too?)

strawberries

raspberries

blueberries

tangerines

peaches

plums

coconut flakes

assorted nuts

clementine oranges

maraschino cherries

pineapple

2 kinds of pears

bananas

nectarines

kiwis

4 different kinds of apples

i know its already a huge list of fruit, but please feel free to recommend me any other fruits that would mix well with it.

thanks much in advance :)

I want to share my bloody mary secret ingredient: passata!

I have done probably 50 different combinations including this and I don’t have a favorite recipe because I get excited to try new ingredients!

Instead of posting a recipe, I just wanted to share an ingredient that has made the quality of my Bloody Mary mix just skyrocket!

PASSATA!

Passata is a medium-thick, pourable, uncooked red tomato sauce made from crushed and strained San Marzano tomatoes. I usually find it in the Italian section of the grocery, not with the other tomato sauces. The raw tomato taste added the most amazing burst of freshness and the thick texture added gives an amazing consistency.

Every couple of weeks I bottle up a new batch. I love using my ikea 34oz korken bottle with stopper. I fill about 3 parts tomato juice, 1 part passata and then add in any seasonings/sauces that I’m using to kick it up a notch. I use less tomato juice if my extra ingredients are sauces.

Some of my favorite add ins have been:

Peri Peri seasoning Peppercorn steak sauce Caribbean Jerk Marinade Aleppo Pepper Fresh Basil Fresh Cilantro Togarashi

Not all together of course, but in different variations I’ve made! When ready for a glass, I just pour vodka over ice, add a lemon or lime wedge, fill with the mix and stir.

Bloodys in restaurants just aren’t the same now!

Hey everyone, here in France, on the 2nd of February we celebrate "La Chandeleur" (Candlemas), where it's traditional to eat crêpes for an entire day. I wanted to share my family's recipe so you guys can celebrate too!

As well as being delicious, this crêpe batter is superior to other batters because you don't need to let it rest before making crêpes and you don't need to butter the pan between each crêpe.

If you're interested, I've made a whole video on the history of Candlemas and how to make crêpes, which you can checkout here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddqvAM1AAyg&lc=UgyCNeDz5CfXh2VRW7p4AaABAg

Otherwise, here is the recipe.

Ingredients

For 24 crêpes, you will need:

- 250g of Flour (0.55 lbs)

- 60g of Butter (2.1 oz)

- 5g of Salt (0.2oz)

- 6 Whole Eggs

- 600ml of Milk (2.5 cups)

- 4tbsp of Water

- 4tsp of a Strong Liquor (such as Cognac or a Dark Rum)

(The original recipe asked for twice as much salt but that was too much. If the crêpes feel bland, add a pinch of salt.)

Directions

  1. Heat your milk on a medium-low stove up until it's just about to boil. Do not let it boil as milk spills over very easily.
  2. While your milk is heating, put your flour in a large bowl, make a hole in the middle, break your eggs into it, and whisk them together. When the flour and eggs are well combined, add the water, salt, and liquor, and whisk again.
  3. When your milk is warm enough, take it off the stove, add the butter and mix them together. When the butter is melted, slowly pour it into your batter while vigorously whisking the batter as to avoid forming lumps.

Voilà! Your dough is now ready. As I've said before, you can immediately use it to make crêpes, which are a great and fun way to spend an afternoon with friends and family.

To make a nice crêpe, take a shallow and wide pan (22 cm/8.5 inches) and put it on high heat. Put some butter in the pan and once it's melted, grease the whole pan with a piece of paper. You only need to butter the pan for its first crêpe. When the pan is nice and hot, take your batter, whisk it again to mix incorporate any flour that fell to the bottom (I recommend doing that regularly), take a large scoop of batter and pour it onto your warm pan. Spread it evenly, let it stick a second or two, and then pour any excess batter back into the bowl.

Put your pan back on the heat and let it cook for a couple of minutes. Once the crêpe sticks off by itself, you can flip it. I recommend just picking it up with your fingers for that. Let it cook for a minute or two on the other side and enjoy it warm with any spread you like.

As a topping, I strongly recommend trying out "Crème de Marron" or brown sugar with lemon.

Bon appétit!

I really hope you give these a try. They are tasty, easy and fun to make and you can put any toppings you like on them so it's really a great way to spend an afternoon with friends and family.

Does anyone know of any recipes using Twinkies? Help!

I know this is kind of a weird request, but my brother just picked up an online order from a grocery store for my mother, and they were out of Strawberry Twinkies. Well, whoever did the substitution to our order screwed it up- instead of substituting 1 box of regular Twinkies, they gave us 10 boxes for 1/10th the price! We would have said something, but my brother picked it up and he didn't know what he was picking up. When they asked him if it was Ok to substitute regular Twinkies for Strawberry, they never mentioned they were giving us 10!

So suffice it to say we are currently buried in spongecake.

It's not like they are ever going to spoil, so we'll finish them all off eventually, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any recipes that use them.

Recipes which use crushed Quaker Oatmeal Squares?

Hello, /r/recipes! My teenage son eats Quaker Oatmeal Squares for breakfast every morning, so we go through about four boxes a week. But as a result we generate a lot of the crushed cereal that collects at the bottom of the box, which we can’t get him to eat. It seems like this stuff could be used for some sort of sweet treat but I’m not finding anything online and I don’t trust myself to make something up.

Any of you have recipes which uses this stuff, or ideas on ways to use it? Thanks!

Is there any recipe I can make for dinner tonight that doesn't rile up the acid in my stomach and it tastes decent? Don't have tons of cash to spare. Just want to buy some ingredients at the supermarket and go home and make it and eat. I'd prefer chicken, honestly if you can just give me the main food, like a good way to cook chicken and what ingredients to make it taste really good, I'll just make mashed potatoes and whatever other side you guys recommend.

Need to make a protein bar that contains 72g of All Bran cereal. Can't find any recipes online. Can anyone give me ideas?

Basically I've got ADHD and two things that I can get from diet that are good for my ADHD brain are protein and zinc. As well, since my meds kill my appetite, I need to increase my caloric intake or my weight will continue to decrease drastically. 72g of All Bran cereal contains a whopping 50% of your daily zinc requirement, 200 calories, 10 grams of protein. So I need a way to turn that into something with more protein, more calories, and even more zinc if that's at all possible while maintaining portability. Potassium would be an added bonus since then I could take it before working out (exercise is also good for an ADHD brain). Figured some sort of protein bar would do the trick but I have no idea where to start. Suggestions?
