A good friend of mine grew up eating a traditional Russian cake that he's mentioned is his favorite. It's called cake L'amour and he's described it enough for me to know that this is an example of one. My friends and I are throwing him a surprise party this weekend and I am hoping to make him this cake, but am really struggling to get a better description of what the texture and flavor of the cake is, what the filling is between the layers (cherry jam?), what the icing is, and if there is any flavor added to the meringues. If anyone has a recipe for this kind of cake that would be most helpful, but an in depth description would help a lot too. Thanks!
