Statement/question: I'm from the southern US where we have a great (in my uninformed opinion) of Mexican food. On a recent trip to California the house specialty at a Mexican restaurant was Verde pizole soup. It was the best Mexican dish I've ever had and I had never heard of it or seen it before. I found a recipe online and now make it often. Have you had a similar experience with non American food that you never knew existed, or is very unpopular but turned out to be excellent and you now make it yourself? Please name some dishes and the style/country of origin and a recipe if you make it. I'll link the pizole in the comments.
