I’ve never had cornbread with chili and I’m looking forward to making it along with the chili I’ll be making. I didn’t realize it was popular to side with chili. I also don’t make chili that often at all; I’m actually the one who introduced chili to my family.
I’m trying a new recipe that someone sent to me and I want to side it with something solid this time. My family, including me, usually eat it with a spoon or with any kind of bread we have available.
I’ve been looking and comparing corn bread recipes. Almost all the recipes but the classic southern style cornbread call for sugar. I’m turned off by the thought of having sweet cornbread with savory chili. I don’t think I’ve had cornbread before; I’ve had corn muffins and just imaging having that corn muffin with a bowl of chili topped with cheddar cheese and sour cream is really putting off. I’m also reading conflicting information. And then again, I don’t actually know what that tastes like so I don’t want to be quick to judge and I’m really hoping to hear what Reddit has to say:
Should I make cornbread with or without sugar (apparently, without sugar is southern style)? Also, does the amount of sugar (usually calls for 2/3 c of sugar) really make all that much of a difference that the cornbread turns out sweet? I’m thinking maybe it’s a distinct taste that I can’t quite put my finger on making it unlike anything I’ve tried, so I do want to give the recipe calling for sugar a shot to have with chili if the hype is what’s made to be.
